Football Timing FAQs

What football drills can I time with Freelap?

Freelap helps you time the 40-yard dash, acceleration, flying sprints, change-of-direction drills, and other start-to-finish speed tests. Add intermediate timing points when you want to see where an athlete gains or loses time during a rep.

Which Football Timing Kit should I choose?

Choose the Football Starter Kit if athletes will primarily run one at a time or you are starting with a smaller training group. Choose the Football Advanced Kit when you want to time more athletes simultaneously and move a larger group through testing with less chip sharing.

The Starter Kit includes one athlete chip; the Advanced Kit includes five athlete chips and charging accessories.

Do I need one chip for every player?

No. When players run one at a time, they can share a chip using MyFreelap’s roster, and each result can still be saved to the correct athlete. We recommend approximately one chip for every three to four athletes to keep the session moving.

Want to time two or more players at once? Give each player a chip, and Freelap automatically identifies whose time is whose—without calling out names, writing down results, or sorting them later.

Can Freelap time 40-yard splits as well as the final time?

Yes. You can measure the complete 40-yard time and add intermediate timing points to evaluate acceleration through segments such as the first 10 or 20 yards. The number of splits available during a rep depends on the transmitters included in your setup.

Can Freelap handle team testing without manual data entry?

Yes. Each athlete’s result is sent to MyFreelap and can be organized by athlete, rep, and session. Unique chips also allow multiple athletes to run simultaneously while keeping their results correctly identified.

Can I expand my football timing system later?

Yes. Start with the number of chips and timing points your current workflow requires, then add compatible chips, transmitters, and accessories as your group or testing needs grow. Confirm compatibility before combining products from different Freelap system families.
